SpotCleaner or steam cleaner: which removes the stain

SpotCleaner rinses, brushes, and vacuums the stain from the fabric. The steam cleaner produces steam but does not vacuum. The hose is 1 meter long, and the fabric ends up slightly damp.

The stain is on the sofa, and the two appliances look alike until you see what comes out of the nozzle. SpotCleaner or steam cleaner is a choice between suction and steam. SpotCleaner sprays water, brushes, and sucks up dirt and water. The standard SteamCleaner steams, and it does not suck the spill back up.

SpotCleaner is not a steam cleaner. It has no heating, and it does not claim to disinfect on its own. The steam cleaner has no dirty-water tank.

Two ways to deal with a stain

SpotCleaner weighs 3.2 kg. The clean-water tank holds 1,800 ml, and the dirty-water tank holds 650 ml. The power is 500 W, and suction is up to 16 kPa. The hose is 1 meter long. The cord is 3 meters long, and the appliance must remain plugged in. It operates at 220 to 240 V and 50 Hz. For use in a car, it is also specified at 230 V. The dimensions are 33 × 23.5 × 26 cm. You can pour in water up to 60 °C. There is no long shaft.

Included are a large stain brush, a small stain brush, a holder, and a manual in Danish and English. Carpet cleaner is not included. It is sold separately and costs DKK 149. It is not called a chemical agent. The ingredients are Aqua, Alcohols C12-14 ethoxylated, Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Sodium dodecyl sulfate, Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, Enzymes, Parfum, Methylisothiazolinone and Benzisothiazolinone.

The standard SteamCleaner is a different machine. It is specified at up to 100 °C, and one reference regarding dust mites states over 100 °C, so there is no single temperature figure. The pressure is up to 4 bar, there are 6 settings, and it runs for up to 40 minutes. It has 8 nozzles, weighs 1.9 kg, the tank holds 1,250 ml, the power is 1,500 W, and the cord is 1.5 meters long. It must also remain plugged in.

What each one takes away

  • Liquid in the fabric: SpotCleaner rinses and sucks. The steam cleaner has no dirty-water tank and does not suck up the spill.
  • Heat: SpotCleaner does not steam. You can use water up to 60 °C. The steam cleaner delivers heat as steam.
  • Surface: SpotCleaner is for textiles and soft surfaces. The steam cleaner applies steam to the surface, without suction.
  • Starting: SpotCleaner specifies no heating time. The steam cleaner needs to heat up.

When the stain points to SpotCleaner

Coffee, spills, and dirt that need to be carried away make more sense with water and suction than with a cloud of steam that leaves the liquid in the cushion. A stubborn stain may require more than one pass. This is not a promise that the sofa will look new or that one tank will be enough for the entire sofa.

It is for textiles and soft surfaces. Examples include sofas, carpets, mattresses, car seats, chairs, and stairs. It is also for curtains and upholstered furniture. Use only clean water and suitable cleaning agents. Never pour flammable liquids into it. Test it on a small, less visible area first. Grout, tiles, and kitchen countertops are not the intended use, because it is limited to textiles and soft surfaces.

It does not claim to vacuum or pick up pet hair. Do not stand and spray the same spot. The surface becomes only slightly damp, not dry and not nearly dry.

Steam without suction can still be what you want when the task is not a wet stain. In that case, it is SteamCleaner, not SpotCleaner: https://rennoa.dk/products/steam-cleaner-damprenser. It still does not suck up the spill.

How to choose

  • Wet spill on a sofa or carpet: SpotCleaner. Rinse and suck, and repeat only where the stain is.
  • You want to remove the moisture: SpotCleaner. Two tanks, 1,800 ml of clean water and 650 ml of dirty water.
  • You do not want to add more water to the fabric: Steam cleaner, and only a light pass. You get no suction afterward.
  • Grout, tiles, or kitchen countertop: Steam cleaner. SpotCleaner is not for those surfaces.

Rennoa SpotCleaner costs DKK 995 (previously DKK 1,350), as of September 29, 2026. https://rennoa.dk/products/spotcleaner. The difference comes down to whether the dirt leaves the fabric together with the water.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the steam cleaner as a stain remover on the sofa?

You can steam textiles, but the steam cleaner does not suck. A wet stain that needs to be removed from the fibers is suited to SpotCleaner.

Can SpotCleaner clean grout and the kitchen?

No. It is for textiles and soft surfaces. It does not steam.

Will the carpet become dry?

No. The surface becomes only slightly damp. Do not continue spraying the same spot.

How long is the hose?

1 meter. The cord is 3 meters long, and the machine must remain plugged in.

Does it disinfect on its own?

No. There is no bacteria figure, and the machine does not disinfect simply because it uses water and suction. The carpet cleaner is sold separately.

Does it vacuum pet hair?

It does not claim to. It sprays, brushes, and sucks water and dirt out of textiles. It is not a vacuum cleaner.
